Joana Gil-Rico is a Catalan director and singer-songwriter based in Edinburgh, creating work at the intersection of cinema, sound, and genre storytelling. Her directing spans commercials, music videos, and short films, including Day Again and the upcoming visualizer Teeth for SIN/RED.
As a musician, she writes, produces, and performs live, having opened for artists such as Sharon Shannon and the band Focus. She also composes for film and international campaigns, including the score for her debut feature and an original song for the film Brooklyn 45. Her track “ERASER” was featured on ‘BBC Introducing…’. She spent nearly two decades singing with the Orfeó Català choirs at the Palau de la Música Catalana, performing under conductors including Harry Christophers and Zubin Mehta.
Joana is active in international festival programming, with credits including Lund Fantastic (Méliès Federation), the Fantasia International Film Festival, and SXSW, where she serves as an Associate Programmer.
She is completing her debut feature film Chimera State, with new work already in development.
